Why Is Wireless Transmission Used for Live Testing of Lightning Arresters? What Is the Problem with Wired Cables?

When I first saw the name "Wireless Zinc Oxide Surge Arrester Tester", I felt a bit strange - just pull a wire to test the surge arrester? Later on, several actual tests were conducted on site to truly understand what problems wireless solutions are solving.

Pain points of traditional wired measurement
The live testing of lightning arresters requires a reference voltage signal, usually taken from the secondary end of the substation bus PT. The problem is that PT is often not located next to the lightning arrester, and the two may be separated by tens of meters or even at different intervals.

Using wired methods, it is necessary to pull a voltage signal line from the PT secondary end to the side of the host. This line may need to pass through multiple equipment intervals, climb over trenches, and bypass various obstacles. Long distance voltage leads face several problems: first, the line is long, the induced interference increases, and the measurement accuracy decreases; Secondly, there are safety hazards when the line crosses multiple intervals, especially in operating substations; The third issue is the cumbersome wiring, which increases the workload and probability of errors.

How to solve wireless problems

The HZ-20A is equipped with a wireless module (randomly included as standard), which separates the voltage acquisition unit and directly installs it near the PT secondary end, sending real-time voltage data to the host through wireless signals. The operator only needs to operate the host next to the lightning arrester without stretching the voltage line, and there is no connection between the two.

The benefits of doing so are very practical:
Eliminating interference introduced by long-distance voltage lines and improving measurement reliability
Operators do not need to pull wires back and forth between equipment compartments, resulting in higher efficiency

Reduced the layout of testing lines near live equipment, improving on-site safety

The use of wireless modules
The wireless module has an independent 6-core aviation seat. The voltage test line's crocodile clip is connected to the PT secondary end, and the other end is inserted into the wireless module. The host selects "wireless measurement method" in the system settings, and the two are automatically paired and transmitted through the built-in wireless channel. The current measurement line connection method is completely consistent with wired measurement, and no additional operation is required.
The host and wireless module of HZ-20A are both equipped with high-capacity lithium batteries, which support working while charging. The 6-hour battery life is sufficient to cover a day's inspection workload.
